"What's the use of a fine house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on." ~ Henry David Thoreau
June 5.
Does this date ring a bell? Well, of course today is June 5. But what is the importance of this date?
We celebrate June 5 as World Environment Day every year to heal the wounds that the human race has given to Mother Earth. But I don't think that one day is enough to heal the wounds that we have been causing to nature for all these years. Instead of thinking about making big contributions and major changes to the environment, just do your part! Fulfill your contribution and then move forward. Instead of dreaming about planting a hundred trees, start with just planting one.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, let's take a pledge together to help heal Mother Earth. Here's a list of 5 things that we should start doing after this World Environment Day.
1. Recycling. This helps reduce landfill waste, reduce energy consumption, decreases polution, conserves natural resources, reduces global warming and saves hundreds and thousands of forests and habitats.
2. Plant tress. Planting trees is an integral part of WED. Plant at least 1 sapling this month. Increase the number gradually. This year's theme for WED is based on the message "Raise your voice, not the sea level."
3. Neighbourhood clean-up. Invite your neighbours and organise a neighbourhood clean-up and beautify your community. Trash-picking is crucial for this activity. You may also repair fences or minor things in your house.
4. Take public transportation. Try to make a change with this one. If you can, them you should take public transportation. Carpooling too is a great way to reduce those toxic fumes.
5. Stop killing animals. Animals are a very important part of our environment. They hold great importance in the nature. The human race has been destroying their habitats and has been killing them. Let's stop this now and forever. Stop killing those innocent species.
So, here are a few things that we should keep in mind for World Environment Day. Have a safe WED. Thanks for reading!
